Less effective actions include:

• Making assumptions on the situation without asking questions to find out more;
• Asking instead of telling; raising the complaint too early, before rapport had been established; alienating Danny by not seeking their perspective;
• Trying to be positive/ motivational, before understanding the underlying issues;
• Not following up on points made which could lead to further revelations; paying lip service to wellbeing without properly seeking to support it (i.e. ‘door is open’/ ‘go to occupational health’);
• Demanding expectations are met rather than influencing commitment for these; leaving issues unresolved.
